🔹The Diamond yard 🔹 (Bugle)

The Diamond yards flexibility is not the greatest feature it has to offer, it is the effect on yard performance.

It's all about pressure

The exact position of a diamond yard is relative to the width and depth of the bugle itself.

The cool design stuff,

🔹As you open the main bugle feed gate from the transfer yard and fold it back onto the diamond
🔹You are creating a blind or visual presence due to having now 3 x gates in a row
🔹Sheep will instinctively now draw toward the exaggerated open gateway
🔹The lead draw pass on the outside fence line first
🔹The follower sheep coming behind create pressure as they condense past the diamond yard to 'escape' the dead end

This pressure is to counteract the follower sheep who as they enter the curve of the bugle are now considering their options, with pressure from behind they look at the only option left, forward

The "Chameleon"

It is all about giving you flexibility and to do this the pen shape must allow for it to change when you move creating the draw in several directions.

The cool design stuff,

•Curved boards create triangles
•Use the " void" to position the handler in a great position
•By taking a step to the left or right you are creating a tear drop first then a rectangle
•In either direction
•Very important for mob cut outs.

The beauty of it is that your are in the pen BUT haven't reduced the width of the space for the sheep to flow through, which importantly is the same width as the gate!

So simple to do, no more bad corners just "chameleons"

🐮 Toby made a start on some sweet cattle yards in Gippsland last week. These big beauties span over 2000m2 ready to accommodate some larger lines of cattle for a fattening operation, so we had to make sure they had plenty of room!
The curved design embraces natural stock flow, meaning greater efficiency and safety throughout.
